A major casualty that could encounter vessel when calling Tunisian coast/ports is the marine pollution. In such event, TIPIC must endeavour through its surveyors to determine the nature, extent and cause of the pollution and assist Master when negotiating the outcome of this claim before local authorities (signing necessary pollution reports, undertaking necessary cleaning up operations and minimizing the damage as much as possible……).
In case of a heavy pollution, Master could be subject to a pre-emptive detention pending authorities investigations of the claim, in these circumstances, TIPIC should appoint competent lawyer to defend his interests.
